New album out now!
“Hymns for Shepherds and Kings” is the third album in a trilogy from the duo Kristiansen//Vemøy released on Kirkelig Kulturverksted 22nd November 2024.
Kristiansen // Vemøy let hope force its way through the dark on their album “Hymns for Shepherds and Kings. The Kristiansen // Vemøy duo has sought out a musical expression on their Christmas album “Hymns for Shepherds and Kings” that critically explores the times we live in. Øyvind Kristiansen (piano, synths and programming) and Jonas Kilmork Vemøy (trumpet and electronics) do not shy away from including this dark backdrop in their musical expression. The album is a continuation of the atmosphere created from their preceding albums, where anxiety and aggression and yearning and hope are reflected in the musical interpretations.
Vemøy’s warm and soaring trumpet sound imbues all the melodies and improvisations with a powerful wordless emotional essence. Kristiansen’s expressive touch and dynamic piano improvisations combine serenity with playfulness.

Kristiansen // Vemøy
The Norwegian duo Kristiansen // Vemøy came to life early 2020, amid the warning for a coming worldwide pandemic. After years working with other projects and a vast number of artists and musicians, their mutual admiration for each other’s musicality and distinctive character paved way for a new and intriguing musical relationship.
The atmosphere of Kristiansen // Vemøy’s music alternates between drama and tranquility, with subtle acoustic performances, powerful dynamic lifts, and lush emotive, often rhythmic soundscapes – all in all aiming to create a contemplative space for the restless modern human being. It’s all rooted in the old hymns describing existential paradoxes and challenges, first and foremost the suffering, the longing, and the relief.
Hymns of Compassion, Hymns of Longing and Hymns for Shepherds and Kings are the trilogy of records released on Kirkelig Kulturverksted and is meditating over mankind’s longing for the divine and eternal.
